Amazon’s EC2 service located in USA cloud computing data centre is experiencing problems since today morning and popular sites like Reddit, Quora, Foursquare, thousands of other sites are not visible in Internet radar.
The problems are focused on Elastic Block Storage (EBS), which provides block level storage volumes for use with Amazon EC2 instances in USA data centre. All the services of Amazon cloud computing data centres located in other parts of the world are working fine. Tech Dreams makes use of Amazon S3 and the service is not affected by this outage.
Multi-Region Failover Option – To Save Site From Site Crashes
The current issue of Amazon EC 2 is affecting only the sites hosted on USA data centre(US-East-1). Amazon operates cloud computing in multiple regions and allows users to set up multiple region redundancy. In multi region failover setup, if one region fails automatically Amazon automatically shifts the work load to an unaffected region.
All the popular sites that gone down today would have survived this crash if they have opted for Amazon’s multi-region failover option.
