Uday_Kumar_Designer_Of_Indian_Rupee_SymbolUday Kumar(the person on the right side photo) is the designer of Indian Rupee symbol. It’s great to have a unique symbol for Indian currency just like US Dollar, UK Pound, etc. Thanks to Indian Cabinet who quickly reviewed the 1000s of entries submitted for Indian Rupee and selected Uday Kumar’s design as “It is a perfect blend of Indian and Roman letters: a capital ‘R’, and Devnagari ‘Ra’, which represent rupiya, to appeal to international and Indian audiences

Indian Government is taking appropriate steps to make sure the new symbol will be part of computer character set as well as the keyboards shipped in India. But it’s expected to take around 2 years! That’s a long time, but we have to accept that there are many formalities that needs to be completed before the symbol can used in standard keyboards.

Do I have to wait next two years to type the Indian Rupee symbol in my documents and designs? Not really. You can do it right now.
